Dear Dance Lover: I am writing to thank you for your appreciation of dance and to request your charitable support of the Ballet Collective/Los Angeles. Without individuals
like you, we would not have been able to provide much needed employment opportunities for artists and dancers. Particularly this year, your devotion to supporting the arts is so very much appreciated by each and every
member of the Collective.
Even facing the economic challenges of the past year, the company has continued to create jobs for dancers, composers, choreographers, costume designers, videographers and other
theater/video professionals. Given the reduced attendance at live events in the past year, we invested some of our funds in a higher quality video production of the Ballet Collective's latest original dance/music
project, Spaces Between, a collaboration between choreographer John Castagna, composer Mark Mercury, costume designer and Ballet Collective dancers. Spaces Betweeen was nominated by Dance Magazine for "Video of the Month." In addition, Spaces Between is posted on www.youtube.com
For the 2010/2011 season, with an expected climate of declining attendance at live theatre events, we are now planning to focus exclusively on creating a professional quality, dance/film project that we can
enter in competitions such as Dance Camera West in Los Angeles and New York's Dance Film Festival and post on the internet. We believe that this is the best way for us to position the company for grants in the future,
expand our national exposure and support our dancers' careers. In our view it is the best use of the support of our benefactors and will provide a maximum of jobs and best leverage creative talent for long-term impact.
We ask you to sponsor us in any amount you can this
year. Your contribution will support dancers' fees, commissioned music, video and film professionals, costume design and more. We make it our mission to make every penny of donated funds count. Thank you again for being
an essential backer of so many artists. Truly, we could not do it without you.
Please call me if you have any questions or ideas you would like to share at 323.661.6440 or e-mail me at john@balletcollective.org.
Wishing you and your family a fulfilling 2010,
John Castagna
Artistic Director
